It is a flip digital clock, and in my opinion it is not an original Pioneer product but an OEM from Copal (Japan), Copal has also made the same timers for other brands and they all look almost the same (look at Google images), they are electromechanical devices, they have no electronics inside, the malfunctions can almost only be mechanical.

As you can see there are holes in the top of the machine, although this isn't an immediate problem it looks sloppy, I'll address this later.
